Support at Home replaced Home Care Packages. Here's where OT fits.

If you're trying to work out whether Support at Home or CHSP can help with safety, equipment or daily routines, call us. We'll explain the OT role and what information to have ready.

Asking doesn't commit you to anything.

Who this is for

Older people and families needing practical help with home safety, equipment or daily living.

We confirm whether it is the right service, which funding may apply, where sessions can happen, and what to do next.

Tell us what changed at home and the team checks whether an OT assessment is the right next step. We will confirm the service, location, funding option and next step with you.

What to send first

What to have ready when you call.

Mention what has changed at home, the person’s suburb, who is enquiring, and any aged-care funding or coordinator details.

Clinicians

Meet the clinicians for Aged Care Occupational Therapy.

Equipment and home changes

Describe the bathroom, steps or equipment that is getting harder to use.

Grab rails, shower chairs, ramps, toilet raisers, bathroom access and personal alarms can raise different assessment questions. Call and describe the bathroom. We'll tell you on the phone whether it needs an OT assessment or not.

Support at Home and CHSP

Two programs, different entry points.

Support at Home began on 1 November 2025 and replaced Home Care Packages and short-term restorative care. The Commonwealth Home Support Programme continues separately during its transition, currently no earlier than 1 July 2027.

Support at Home

An OT may assess daily activities, home safety, equipment or modifications when occupational therapy is included in the person's approved services.

Commonwealth Home Support Programme

CHSP provides entry-level support for eligible older people. The available OT pathway depends on the assessment, local provider arrangements and the support approved.

Have the person's suburb, current aged-care assessment or provider details, and the main safety or daily-living concern ready. We will not quote funding amounts or eligibility thresholds until we have checked the current program guidance.

Questions

Aged Care OT questions

Yes. Include the person’s location, current living situation, funding details, and what has changed so we can respond with the right next step.

We can discuss whether an Occupational Therapy assessment is suitable for equipment or home modification needs before a service is arranged.

Start with an enquiry. We will confirm the service, location, funding option, and whether an appointment or class is the right next step.

Many people use NDIS, a Medicare referral, DVA, WorkCover, aged-care funding or private funds. Which applies depends on your situation and the service - Tell us what you have and they'll confirm it with you.

Fees depend on the service and your funding pathway. Tell us your funding type in the enquiry and they'll explain the relevant costs up front.
