Online parent coaching for child routines

When mornings, bedtime or after-school routines keep falling apart, occupational therapy can coach you through what to change. Delivered by video, with you leading the session.

Asking doesn't commit you to anything.

  • Coaching for the adult, not direct therapy for the child
  • One routine at a time
  • Strategies that fit your household

Parents, carers and young people can call or enquire.

When the routine keeps breaking down

An OT walks the routine through from start to finish before suggesting a change.

Mornings run the day

Every morning is a rush and an argument, and everyone starts the day already worn out.

Bedtime never settles

The wind-down takes hours, or your child is still wired when you need the day to end.

After school falls apart

Your child holds it together all day and the wheels come off the moment they get home.

Parent coaching with our OTs.

Lin and Joanne coach parents and carers through the routines that happen in their home. The session is about what you do, not what your child does on camera.

What an online session actually looks like

A first session often starts by walking through one routine from start to finish: what you want, what actually happens and where it goes wrong. You can agree something to try, then review it next time.

What you need

A phone, tablet or computer with a camera, a stable connection, and somewhere you can talk without being interrupted.

How the session runs

The parent or carer walks through one routine and the therapist can suggest one change to try before the next session.

Who can join

Anyone who shares the routine can join, including both parents, a carer or a support person.

Your child does not need to be on camera. Describe the routine and we work from there.

How parent coaching works

Pick one routine

Start with the routine that costs the most each day, not all of them at once.

Change one step

Adjust a single part of the routine and keep the rest steady so you can tell what helped.

Coach the adult

You get a plan you can run yourself, with the OT reviewing what happens next.

The aim is a routine you can adjust when things go off track, not a script that has to be followed exactly.

What online coaching can cover

These are the areas most often worked on by video. If something needs to be seen in person, the team says so.

How it works

  1. Call or request a callback. The team checks whether online coaching fits your situation, funding and timing.
  2. First session. You and the OT walk one routine through and agree something to try.
  3. Review and adjust. You keep what works, change what does not, and decide together whether to continue.

Who this suits

This is for parents and carers who want practical help with routines. It coaches the adult rather than treating the child directly.

When telehealth may not be the right fit

Telehealth is not the answer for every request. The team redirects you rather than sell you the wrong format.

What to have ready when you call

Keep it simple. The call is a routing conversation, not an assessment.

Parent coaching for routines questions

This service coaches the parent or carer. Some pages offer direct child OT; this one is built around helping you change the routine.

The OT can discuss what happens around difficult transitions and ways you can support your child through overwhelm. Strategies are agreed around your child’s needs and routines, with suitability checked first.

No. Your child can be nearby, but the session is for the adult who runs the routine.

No routine works every day. The aim is a plan you can adjust when things go off track.

The team talks through whether a different service suits better, including paediatric occupational therapy.

This is not a discipline programme. It looks at the routine, the environment and the steps, and coaches you through changes.

The team confirms fit and funding first. The parent or carer is usually part of the first appointment, which often starts with one routine that is hard. What you work on is agreed with you.

Often, because the coaching is for the adult. The team confirms whether online delivery fits before anything is booked.

Funding options depend on your child and the service. Tell the team what funding you have and they check what applies, then explain any fees before anything is booked.

Ask about parent coaching

Tell the team which routine is hardest and how you are funded. They check fit, fees and timing, then explain the next step.
