Support when showering feels difficult or unsafe

Kayla, Avanti’s Sunshine Coast occupational therapist, looks at how someone gets to the bathroom, gets in and out of the shower or bath, and manages the space around them. The local team talks it through with you and explains whether an OT assessment is the right next step before anything is booked.

How OT helps

What an OT looks at with showering and the bathroom

An occupational therapist looks at how someone gets to the bathroom, gets in and out of the shower or bath, and manages the space around them. The team confirms whether this service fits before anything is booked.

Getting in and out of the shower or bath

Stepping over the lip, holding on, and whether a different setup or equipment could make the routine feel more manageable.

Standing, sitting and washing

How long someone can stand, where they sit if they need to, and how they reach what they need while washing.

The toilet and the space around it

Getting on and off the toilet, turning in a small space, and reaching the basin, towel or clothes.

This is an occupational therapy assessment and recommendation pathway. It is not a personal care, cleaning or support-worker service. Recommendations follow the assessment.
